Stitching in the ditch is great for beginning quilters. Ordinarily, when you stitch in the ditch you must keep the stitch as close to the middle of your seam as possible and your eye on the needle at all times. You do not want your stitches to wander in and out, far away from your seam. (Therefore, it is important that all seams align perfectly so that your stitch will be in a straight line.)
And while it is still important to have a watchful eye on the needle, this 'Stitch-in-the-Ditch' foot helps alleviate guessing and serves as a smooth guide with which to stitch. (Note: You should always practice first on a small sandwich.) The guide on this foot is perfect because it allows you to stitch just a hair's width from the seam, keeping your stitching line straight.
It is the ideal foot to have for seamstresses (as well as you men who sew, too) as another tool for Understitching - where you press seam allowances to one side and top stitch as close to the seam as possible. This holds the seam allowance down and causes the piece of fabric to stay folded under, especially useful for facings.
The little steel bar aligns to your seam and guides your stitching throughout the entire project.
For Quilting: Because it does not have it's own feeding mechanism, this foot would be limited to very small quilt projects where shifting of the layers is not as prevalent.

Unlike a typical "hemostat" which has a toothed or jagged jaw (preventing a firm grip), the Thread-O-Stat is more like tweezers, only better! The Singer Featherweight Maintenance Log Book was designed to keep with your machines - whether you have only one Featherweight that you use and enjoy or an entire collection that you rotate through. The Maintenance Log Book features a place to note the model, serial number & manufacture date, as well as the owner's name and phone number. Documenting maintenance serves as a reminder for when each Featherweight was last serviced and provides provenance to future generations about the care and value of each machine.
Record the frequency of oiling, greasing and other maintenance with coordinating columns to indicate service type, parts replaced, and any extra remarks pertinent from that servicing date. For example, one might want to note that the belt was adjusted for better speed, or a bobbin case screw was replaced, or tension was recalibrated.

A felt drip pad liner is used to collect the excess oil from your Singer Featherweight 221 and 222 Model Sewing Machines. This listing is for the 221 Felt Drip Pad.
If there is oil residue on your finger after depressing it into the old pad, then it is time for a new Felt Drip Pad!
Simply remove the old one after removing the metal tray on the bottom of your machine, peel the paper off the new pad and adhere it in place. (You may need to clean the excess oil and old pad adhesives from the tray before applying the new pad.)
